Hindustani vocal is a system of music originated from the northern part of the India. The style is sometimes called North Indian classical music or Shāstriya Sangīt or Klāsikī Mausīqī. It is a tradition that has been evolving since the 12th century CE, in North India. The rhythmic organisation is based on rhythmic patterns called tala. The melodic functions are called ragas.
